The Humanities Department at NJIT is multidisciplinary and includes specialists in literature, philosophy, music, theatre, communication and new media. No other department includes such a wide range of disciplines and sub-disciplines. We offer an MS in Professional and Technical Communication; a BS in Science, Technology, and Society; BA and BS degrees in Communication and Media; and the non-degree joint Theatre Program with Rutgers-Newark.

Working within a Humanities department such as ours can be exciting since discipline-specific and/or traditional ways of thinking or approaching a subject are always being challenged by exposure to other disciplines. A Humanities collective such as ours fosters an open-mindedness that can play a crucial role in a university’s pedagogy and more largely in societal development. This dynamic is not to be underestimated as we move into the twenty-first century and discover and develop new categories of knowledge and its applications.
