The Humanities Department offers courses and programs that investigate the artistic, cultural and social contexts that inform contemporary society. Special emphasis is given to teaching and research in the following areas: communication with special regard to contemporary media, journalism and all forms of writing; the interplay of science, technology, and society; the theatre; philosophy and professional ethics; literature; the study of cultural artifacts from around the globe; the visual arts, including film; and music.
