First-semester students are placed in appropriate English courses based on their performance on the Scholastic Aptitude Test including the writing section of the test. If a student is required to take the Accuplacer/WritePlacer tests, one re-test will be allowed.   The higher score will be used for the final placement score.  As an alternative to the re-test, students can submit samples of their writing in a portfolio.  It should include personal essays, articles, or other original work written in high school or college.  The samples must have comments by the course teacher.   Students who want to submit a portfolio for English placement review should contact Ms. Margo S.
